What's New for 2008?

Car-free, green transportation on the Cape & Islands is getting better all the time. Share the ride, save fuel, cut your carbon footprint.

Land
Charter a fuel-efficient and low-emission hybrid vehicle for your next trip between Cape Cod and the Islands, and Boston’s Logan Airport, T.F. Green Airport or the Providence AMTRAK station. Green Shuttle of Cape Cod says ‘It’s easy going green.”

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority’s fleet of diesel buses now runs on 20 percent biodiesel fuel. The agency expects to cut CO2 emissions by 15 tons a year and save $35,000 in fuel on its Flex route alone.

Route 132 in Hyannis Opens to Double-Barreled Traffic.  The traffic pattern on the portion of Route 132 in Hyannis presently under construction has been shifted so that inbound and outbound traffic now run on opposite sides of the new center median.  For several weeks in September 2008, there will only be a single land available in each direction while the contractor completes work on the median.  All new traffic signals are operational.  There may be periodic delays and travel restrictions throughout the work period.  Please use caution while traveling through the construction area.

The Steamship Authority is offering free parking for Nantucket ferry day trippers at its Hyannis lots.  Savings range from $10-$15.  The offer is good through October 17, 2008.  Find out more.

New Air TerminalAir
Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis has received $1.7 million in state funds to finish the design of a new 35,000 sq. ft. passenger terminal and related improvements. Watch for construction to start in 2009.

Nantucket Memorial Airport is undergoing a $26 million upgrade including 18,000 sq. ft. of additions and renovations. Most notable will be a new wing off the main terminal for passengers flying to Boston and New York. Work should be done in spring 2009.
